Global Affairs Canada announced that another set of discussions about a possible Canada-China free trade agreement (FTA) took place in Beijing from July 31 to August 4, 2017. Previous meetings took place from February 20-24, 2017 in Beijing and from April 24-28, 2017 in Ottawa.
The talks were initiated following a meeting last September between Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and the Premier of of China, Li Keqiang where the two leaders agreed to launch exploratory discussions.
The discussions give both sides an opportunity to exchange information about each other’s regulations and laws, and to explore the details a possible Canada-China FTA.
In parallel with the exploratory discussions launched in September 2016, Global Affairs says Canada and China are conducting a joint feasibility study to examine the potential economic benefits for both economies of an FTA.
